Prince of Persia was definitely a worthy mention for its era. The mid-00s saw the release of three Prince of Persia titles before Ubisoft moved on to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. While Assassin’s Creed is the result of the natural progression of the series’ mechanics, there are many fans that miss the old feel and story of the old series.

One such fan, Chrissy Teigan, a model and TV show host, posted on Twitter about how much she enjoyed Prince of Persia and wondered if the franchise was still kicking. Jordan Mechner, the creator of the original Prince of Persia, tweeted back, "Chrissy, I know a few other people who feel the same way. We’re doing our best to make it happen!"

It looks like Android could very well be getting another Prince of Persia game in the near future. According to an announcement Ubisoft made yesterday, the company has been working on a new Prince of Persia game for mobile platforms called Prince of Persia: The Shadow and The Flame.

While the game announcement doesn't go into specifics as to which platforms this new Prince of Persia game would be arriving on, it is a safe bet that it will be for both iOS and Android (since it is the same Ubisoft division that made Prince of Persia Classic for both platforms) although you can probably expect the Android version to be released after the iOS version.

“As soon as we have something to show, we will.”

Ubisoft has “paused” the Prince of Persia franchise while it considers new ideas. In an interview with IGN, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat confirmed that the series is currently taking a break, but explained that shouldn’t be taken as a bad sign.

“Brand management is a tricky thing,” Mallat told IGN. “It needs people's attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it.”

The screenshot, which emerged on the official Ubisoft forums this weekend, makes reference to 'PoP Zero 2'. According to long-standing reports, 'PoP Zero' was a failed 2008 reinvention of the Prince of Persia series set in the modern era.

After the secret project was canned, many features and design ideas were said to have been incorporated into the original Assassin's Creed. The first whispers of a new 'Persia were voiced ahead of this year's E3, when supposedly leaked images appeared showing a cloaked figure and the phrase "Judgement is coming". The 'leaked' E3 pics appear to align with what we can see in today's image. We've contacted Ubisoft for comment. [SOURCE]

Leaked images can prove to be massively informative or completely misleading, and the latest grabs of what looks to be a cinematic trailer from Ubisoft could go either way. Beyond some classical glimpses of armor and weaponry, it’s difficult to tell if the developer is preparing to unveil a new Prince of Persia title at E3 2012, or another entirely different property. Either way, it seems that ‘Judgment is Coming.’
