March 22nd is going to be a big day for Ubisoft, on that day they will debut not 1 but 2 different boxed trilogies. On the one hand they will release Prince of Persia Trilogy HD. Now re-mastered in High Definition are three classic Prince Of Persia titles, exclusively for the PS3. Digitally enhanced HD and 3D graphics heighten the experience of adventure and improve overall gameplay. Included are Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones all in HD.

Unsurprisingly, Ubisoft announced today that two new HD collections are in the works. The Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia series will each see a trilogy of its games re-released in high definition for the PlayStation 3. Both were rumored last year after retail listings popped up, with Ubisoft later confirming them.

Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD will include the original Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory all on one Blu-ray disc or as a download from the PlayStation Store. The 'classic' part of the title is most likely a clarification that it includes the first three games in the series rather than a suggestion that a second HD collection could be in the works. Three more Splinter Cell games have been released since Chaos Theory, but one (Conviction) was an exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PC and another (Essentials) was only for the PSP.

Europe already got it, we in North America were given the Prince of Persia Sand Trilogy via digital download, but we might be seeing a disc version on this side of the Atlantic. A product listing on GameFly leads us to believe that a disc version of the Prince of Persia HD Collection is coming on March 22nd. Considering that disc copies exist in Europe, pressing North American copies would not be that difficult for Ubisoft.

This is still very much just a rumor but hopefully we’ll hear something from UbiSoft really soon. [SOURCE]

Being a prince isn’t all about smiling at cameras all royal like, christening fancy boats, or whatever else princes do (seriously what do they do?) As in the case of 2004’s Prince of Persia Warrior Within from developer Ubisoft, sometimes you’ve got to fight off the immortal manifestation of Fate, as it tries to kill you for escaping your predestined death.

Thankfully this Prince isn’t at the mercy of this Final Destination-like scenario, he’s got some mean combat skills, along with duel weapon mastery to snuff the living (non-living?) daylights out of whatever nightmarish forces stand in his way. Oh, and the power to control time is fine too. And by fine I mean, amazingly cool.

Oh, videogames, how we love your stories that lift up our spirit and at the same time let us beam it down to the ground by means of an ion cannon. One could say the Writers Guild of America acknowledges this with its announcement for the 2011 WGA Awards nominees for videogame writing, a category that first appeared in 2008.

Then again, this year's nominees are: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Fallout: New Vegas, God of War III, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Singularity and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. You have to keep in mind that this is based on submitted scripts for videogames -- not on actual in-game writing analysis or whatnot -- but even so, some of these titles seem like odd choices, to say the least.

Here's the full list of credits for each nominee:
  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Story by Patrice Desilets, Jeffrey Yohalem, Corey May; Lead Script Writer: Jeffrey Yohalem; Script Writers: Ethan Petty, Nicholas Grimwood, Matt Turner; Ubisoft
  • Fallout: New Vegas, Creative Design Lead/Lead Writer: John Gonzalez; Writers: Chris Avellone, Eric Fenstermaker, Travis Stout; Additional Writing: Tess Treadwell, George Ziets, Jason Bergman, Nick Breckon, Matt Grandstaff, Will Noble, Andrew Scharf; Bethesda Softworks
  • God of War III, Written by Marianne Krawcyzk; Additional Writing by Stig Asmussen, Ariel Lawrence, William Weissbaum; Sony Computer Entertainment
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Writer: Benjamin McCaw; Story Dialogue Editor: Marianne Krawczyk; Ubisoft
  • Singularity, Written by Marc Guggenheim, Lindsey Allen, Emily Silver; Additional Story and Writing: Jason Henderson, Adam Foshko, Michael Cassutt; Story and Script Consultant: Adam Foshko; Activision
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Executive Producer-Writer: Haden Blackman; In-Game Script: David Collins, John Stafford, Cameron Suey; Additional Writing: Tid Cooney, Ian Dominguez, Tony Rowe; LucasArts
